66% voted against Sadiq Khan's ULEZ expansion. Even worse, a Telegraph investigation has uncovered evidence that opposition votes may have been improperly excluded. The ULEZ expansion must stop and the Mayor must explain what has happened to those votes.
I have previously questioned Sadiq Khan about the actual benefits of the ULEZ expansion and whether the public funds are being used in the best way to tackle air pollution. He avoided answering my straightforward questions and could not explain where his information was coming from (see video).
I do not believe that spending £200million on an expanded camera network, and charging the poorest to drive, is the best way to improve air quality in London.
My belief is that Sadiq Khan plans to use the extra ULEZ cameras to bring in a pay-per-mile road user charging scheme for all. When I asked TfLs finance officer about it, he said they had already started hiring people to build it!
Sadiq Khan must be held to account and must explain why his expansion is still going ahead, despite overwhelming opposition. The findings by the Telegraph are shocking and there are serious questions that the Mayor of London and TfL must answer.
