Peter Fortune MP said: "I am saddened to hear that Bishop Challoner School will be closing, impacting the education of more than 200 pupils locally.
"This is the inevitable consequence of Labour's policies. Imposing VAT on independent schools, removing their charitable business rate relief, and increasing employers' national insurance contributions is hurting local schools.
"These decisions were not about lifting state schools up, but an ideological attack on independent schools. It's unfair, damaging and the worst of this Labour government.
