Peter Fortune MP has today called for a debate on improving safeguarding during Business Questions in the House of Commons. This question followed on from being contacted by a constituent who informed him that schools are not informed if an individual convicted of sexual offences against children is living in close proximity.
Speaking in the House of Commons Peter said: "I have been contacted by a constituent in Biggin Hill who is deeply concerned that schools are not made aware when individuals who have been charged with child sexual offences are living in close proximity to the school.
"I appreciate that we have to balance safeguarding with legal and privacy issues, but surely making the schools aware makes sense. Can we have a debate in this place on community safeguarding?"
