In response to news that Barclays Local will close its service in Biggin Hill Library, Peter Fortune MP said: "I'm extremely disappointed by the news that Barclays Local will be closing its services in Biggin Hill Library. The services will end on 9 December 2025, and I understand Barclays will contact any affected customers directly.
"As more people bank online, high street banks are withdrawing from face-to-face banking. However, many people cannot or prefer not to bank online, and the closure of local services makes it harder for them to manage their finances, withdraw and deposit cash, and pay bills. That's why it's so crucial that we fight to retain local banking services.
"As your MP, I have asked for a meeting with Barclays Local to discuss their decision. I will also be exploring the idea of bringing a Banking Hub to Biggin Hill to secure the future of in-person banking."
